What do you get when you have Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and  Dolph Lundgren on the same stage? Lots of testosterone and serious motion picture star power! This San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Panel moderated by Geoff Boucher was clearly one of the hottest seats at this year’s SDCC.  Speaking to a standing room only crowd, this well orchestrated event was clearly designed to showcase the drawing power of both Schwarzenegger and Stallone. Pre-introduction, fans were treated to a sound-roaring epithet of the pair’s greatest hits that led up to the introduction of the panel’s three minor players, Crews, Couture, and Lundgren. When asked what it was like to watch that Stallone said, “Ouch, ouch, ouch.” During his initial comments Stallone said it’s much easier to be an action star today, because actors are able to utilize tools like CGI (Computer Generated Imagery). In the 80′s if it looked like you were jumping off a waterfall, it’s because you were.

For “The Expendables 2″ Stallone has pulled out all the stops. He brings back to the big screen most all the players from the first film and kicks it up a couple of notches in #2 by adding legendary action stars Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis who both make brief cameos in the first film. We’ll also have the chance to see for the first time, seasoned action star, Chuck Norris. Stallone is also making an effort to revive the career of one-time martial arts badass Jean-Claude Van Damme, who plays the bad guy in the sequel. According to Stallone, filmgoers won’t be disappointed.

Although most of the conversation at the 45-minute panel was Stallone and Schwarzenegger bantering back and fourth, former football player Crews and MMA star Couture got their egos stroked by the two Hollywood heavy weights. Reflecting on what he learned from the first Expendables film Sly was quick to say that it makes no sense to mess with a good thing. Building on what he’s done for decades better than anyone else in the action movie genre, there’s no doubt the sequel will be bigger than the first movie. With this many action stars in one film, any other outcome just isn’t logical.
